The generator is absorbing power from the grid instead of supplying it. This dangerous condition occurs when engine power drops below the power required to overcome system losses, causing the generator to act as a motor.

Reverse power (motoring) occurs when the generator absorbs power from the grid instead of producing it. This can damage the prime mover and must trigger immediate disconnection.
Typical reverse power trip is set at 5-15% of rated power with a time delay of 2-5 seconds. Settings depend on application and generator characteristics.
