Water boils at 99.2 °C here, not 100. Pressure falls with height and the boiling point falls with it — close enough to 1 °C per 285 m for building services, which puts Mandera at 217 m near 99.2 °C. That is the margin a cylinder thermostat and a temperature relief valve are actually working against, and it is why a stored temperature that is comfortable at the coast deserves a second look inland. Demand, storage and pressure are the real design. Kenyan mains supply is intermittent far more often than it is inadequate, so storage sized against the realistic interruption — not a round number — is what keeps taps running. Height above the highest outlet is what creates pressure by gravity, and a tank sitting just above the top-floor ceiling will not give a shower anyone accepts; that is where a booster set and a correctly pre-charged pressure vessel earn their place. Hot water at the far end of a corridor is a circulation problem, never a capacity one.

Airborne dust. Mandera sits in Kenya's arid rangelands, where the governing maintenance variable is not running hours but air filtration. Manufacturer service intervals assume far cleaner intake air than this. Dust ingestion scores liners and bores, and a filter still inside its hour-based interval can already be choking the engine — which is why restriction, not the calendar, should trigger a change here. Pre-cleaners and sealed intake ducting pay for themselves.

Extreme heat. A design ambient above 36 °C puts this among the hardest environments in Kenya to keep a set running at rating. Standard radiator packages are frequently inadequate; high-ambient cooling packs, generous enclosure free area and shaded intake are the difference between a machine that holds load and one that shuts down on high coolant temperature in the afternoon.

Load profile. With over a million residents, Mandera carries a real mix — commercial premises, institutions and light industry — and the sets we are asked about here are usually replacements rather than first installations.
