UPS Systems in Kitui

Moderately warm. At 30.7 °C design ambient the thermal penalty is modest — roughly 2.3% — and standard radiator packages have margin in hand. What deserves attention instead is the gap between the 27.2 °C typical day and the 32.5 °C peak: an installation sized for the average will be the one that trips on the hottest afternoon of the year, which is usually also the afternoon you most needed it.

What this does to UPS batteries. Sealed lead-acid cells are rated for 25 °C, and their service life roughly halves for every 10 °C above it. At a design ambient of 30.7 °C around Kitui, an unconditioned battery room is operating at roughly 67% of the life the datasheet promises — a four-year string retiring in about 3 years. This is the single most expensive thing people get wrong about UPS here, and it is a room-cooling decision, not a battery-brand one.

Load profile. With over a million residents, Kitui carries a real mix — commercial premises, institutions and light industry — and the sets we are asked about here are usually replacements rather than first installations. That changes the question: the existing cable, transfer switch and foundation usually constrain the answer more than the load calculation does, and surveying what is already there is worth more than a catalogue.

Getting there. Kitui lies about 122 km east of our Embakasi, Nairobi workshop in a straight line — road distance is longer. Our mobile workshop covers all 47 counties, so this is comfortably within routine call-out range for service and breakdown attendance.

How to read these figures. Altitude and temperature are for Kitui, the Kitui County headquarters — counties span wide ranges, so these are county reference points, not your site values. The figures derived from them are planning indications, not a substitute for a site survey and measured readings. Elevation: GeoNames, via the Open-Meteo Geocoding API.
